Surprise, Surprise

Well... I'm in a little bit of shock right now. We just found out that Mango is a HE, not a SHE!!! The breeder just sent me an email feeling so horrible and embarrassed. On the original birth paperwork, our puppy was marked as male. However, when she emailed me after the birth, she accidentally referred to him as a "she" and then in our writing back and forth, it just got stuck in her mind that it was a girl. The breeder handles the puppies every day, but has about 17 of them and it just never registered to her that she had told me incorrectly (since male puppies don't raise their leg to pee until they are older anyway). When she measured him today, she thought "wow, she's measuring big for a girl" and double-checked... that's b/c it's a boy!

She feels absolutely awful and contacted me right away to see if we wanted to change our mind. It really didn't matter to us either way. When we were going to get a puppy from the first litter, it was going to be a boy. We just fell in love with the little face and can't wait to have a puppy in our home.

So... now the dilemma is a name again! Mango is a little too girly. We're thinking Boston. Do you guys like that or have other suggestions?

Ahhh!!! I don't like surprises :P.

can I assume you'll be finding out the gender of your future children, so that you won't be "surprised." or maybe you won't so that they don't tell you it's a girl and then when it's born "surprise, it's a boy!"

LOL! Nice. The first thing I thought of when I heard this was Chris Kattan's "Mango!" on SNL. So maybe the gender confusion is fitting? :-)

Btw, this is your cousin-in-law Graham. Didn't know you had a blog! Our (waaay outdated) family shingle is hanging at www.rozilini.blogspot.com if you're interested. (My own blog as 'Splash' is taking some time off, so don't bother.)

Well, I may be partial, but I think Tex or Dallas would be a very cute doggy name :)

Oh, no! I'm not sure about a name. Boston is cute though.

I think you can still call him Mango. My family's male Australian Shepherd is called Migo. (Well, Migo Fishstick Danger Gort) Migo and Mango aren't that different.

HOLY COW! He is sooooooo stinkin' cute!!

I actually really like the name Boston. Other ideas. . . Wesley, Oswald (Ozzie) or Gilbert (Gilby).

What a crazy story! I think Mango can go either way, and from years of Spanish, a word ending in "o" is always male to me. But, if you think it's girly, go with something else, he's your pup! :) Boston is a great name, especially once he gets big - I like what someone else said about calling him Boss. Cute! :)

Hey, better your dog than your child! Did you hear Brittany and Dave's story? The doctor told them they were having a girl and low and behold it was Miles! At least you don't have to return all the pink stuff!

I gave my name suggestion on Facebook: Buster
